Open Door Haiti is a non-profit organization founded by Pastor Wiljean Compere in the 1990s. They strive to assist and support the Haitian people through fellowship and hard work. Since the founding of the Open Door Church in Haiti in 1993, the Open Door Haiti ministry has developed here in the United States and the ministry has grown exponentially. After meeting Pastor Wiljean, Doug Holliday began traveling to Haiti and bringing mission teams to assist. In 2006, Doug and his wife Jennifer founded Open Door Haiti as a mission effort of their local church in Sanford. Through ODH they have since built a two-story ministry center that houses the various groups of missionaries that travel to Haiti, a medical clinic that is currently a level two trauma center, and a two-story school that educates over 300 children.
In addition, Open Door Haiti has built a feeding center which now allows the school children to have a daily meal while in school. The average family in Haiti eats only two meals per week. The ministry center has also implemented an agricultural program and sewing classes to promote sustainability of the projects with the Haitian people. Since the devastating earthquake that took place in January of 2010 their mission has become even greater. They are currently in the process of building an orphanage that will initially house over 50 children that have lost their loved ones.
In response to this need, Chris Richardson has created a non-profit organization called Christian Sharing Resources, Inc. that has partnered with Open Door Haiti to continue to aid the growing needs in Haiti. CSR, Inc.’s major role will be to manage the continual construction efforts that Open Door Haiti will be building around the country of Haiti. The role of CSR here in America will be to increase awareness of the needs in Haiti and encourage others to utilize their resources to fight against the poverty in Haiti. Mr. Richardson will be leaving for Haiti in May, 2010 and will re-locate for over a year to Bois de Lance, Haiti which is located 15 miles outside of the second largest city in Haiti, Cap Haitian.
